Walks Around Totnes
Some of the best walking in South Devon sits on Totnes’ doorstep. The River Dart south to Dartmouth, the bluebell woods at Berry Pomeroy, the high lanes between Ashprington and Stoke Gabriel, and Dartmoor’s south-eastern edge above Buckfastleigh.
Our walks coverage is in the Guides section. Highlights below.
Riverside
The Dart Valley Trail runs from Steamer Quay in Totnes down the west bank past Sharpham House, through Ashprington and on to Dittisham and Dartmouth. Most-walked sections are the four-mile loop to Ashprington and the longer haul through Cornworthy.
Dartmoor edge
From Buckfastleigh you can be on open moor within ten minutes of leaving the car. Hembury Fort, the woods at Holne, and the wider Two Moors Way north to Lynmouth.
Villages and the South Hams
Shorter loops between Berry Pomeroy, Stoke Gabriel, Cornworthy and Tuckenhay link old packhorse tracks and bridleways with stretches of riverbank.
